Yay for internet being back!

Oh May what a fun, exciting and surprising month you were!

May started out normal... I finished out my spring semester at KSU with wonderful grades (yay). We went to Destin in the middle of May for my cousin, Ashley's wedding. What a beautiful wedding. It was on the beach and at sunset... sooooo pretty! The reception was at my aunt and uncles beach house and my aunt and nana did all the food themselves. They provided an incredible spread. All there hard work was well worth it. Everyone had a great time with full bellies.

The week after getting back was pretty normal, nothing crazy exciting just work.

Until.....

THE FLOOD!

Joe and I had gone to bed around 11 on Monday evening. Of course I was asleep as soon as I hit the pillow. Joe fell asleep around midnight. The two of us were sleeping soundly to the soft whisper of our rain CD. Joe had been awoken by a drip not normal to the CD, upon his awakening he decided he needed to "pay the water bill" as we like to call it at work (Urinate for those who didnt catch it). He stepped out of bed only to find that the carpet was SOAKED! Needless to say the exclamation in his voice awoke me to which I thought one of the dogs had an accident and Joe had stepped in it. So I rushed out of bed to find to my surprise the wet carpet Joe had previously discovered. The time was about 3:40 a.m.

Once awake and realizing what was going on we both rushed out of the bedroom to figure out where this water was coming from. Despite the whole situation being bad the bedroom was the best off, however, at that hour in the morning it seemed like the worst until we searched further.
The following pictures are for your viewing pleasure of the exciting night I would love to never go through again!

So whats a couple to do when they awake to find their apartment in a flood watch... throw everything on top of everything else or outside.... anywhere that is dry! The above picture is on our patio. The box is my wedding dress that we paid $300 to have preserved... thankfully the dress was completly dry! The box however (well box inside a box) was soaked and the preserving has to be redone...

(Above) this was the guest bathroom, that is a bathmat floating around on the floor... anyone up for some surfing? I do have to say that despite the craziness I found the camera and was able to catch some great photos like the ripple affect in the water of a drip falling from the ceiling. (who knew that a flood could be so artistic?) You can kind of tell here that the water was about ankle deep... just enough to go wading in. I used to wade in creeks with my Papa unfortunatly there were no interesting rocks to find in this creek just ruined belongings.

This was the dining room wall which only got worse as the water soaked through.... notice the water coming from the light switch on the wall... pretty safe! Oh and that is not to be topped by the tremendous amount of water POURING from the light fixture onto the table.

This is the dining room floor and a beer making bucket... unfortunatly the colored liquid in the bucket is not a light beer but the dirties smelliest water coming out of our ceiling. I think back now and you may already be wondering but in the mass amount of water why did we use buckets to catch anything, like it could get anyworse? I really am not sure why other than it provided us with comfort knowing that we were controlling the situation somehow.
So you get the idea... our morning continued with a very romantic picnic on the patio at 5 a.m. for breakfast catered by only the best of course.... Waffle House! There was no way were were getting anything out of the kitchen considering it probably would have floated away if we let it.
The carpet man showed up shortly after and after hours of sucking the carpet dry and pulling out all the padding we were no longer splashing around the apartment. They pulled 600 gallons of water out that wonderful early morning!
The entire flood was caused by a busted pipe in the apartment above us in which was let to flow for 3 1/2 hours before the water was shut off! We had some difficulties with the complex that we were living in. We tried to explain to them that repadding the carpet and using the same carpet was not going to work... not to mention the smell but the moisture there and in the walls and ceiling were going to cause this....

Yes that is mold... creeping up the wall, Lovely isnt it? We were allowed out of our lease after 2 weeks going back and forth with management and corporate and are now living in a mold free environment 3 miles away.
More pics to come later of new place...
